Cochin University of Science and Technology Common Admission Test • Conducted by Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT)
Option Registration, Trial Allotment, Seat Confirmation & Reporting
Unlike KEAM's centralized counselling via CEE Kerala, CUSAT conducts its own independent online option registration and seat allotment process exclusively for CAT rank holders, covering SOE, CUCEK, Kunjali Marakkar School of Marine Engineering, and its affiliated colleges. The process typically begins within a couple of weeks of the rank list declaration.
Rank holders log in and arrange their preferred college-branch combinations in order of priority across SOE, CUCEK, Marine Engineering, and affiliated colleges.
A non-binding trial allotment is published so candidates can gauge their likely seat and revise their option order before the actual allotment rounds begin.
Candidates allotted a seat must pay the prescribed admission/caution fee online within the stipulated deadline to confirm their seat.
Candidates seeking a better option can retain their current seat while participating in upgrade rounds; vacant seats are filled in subsequent rounds based on rank order.
Allotted candidates report to the respective college with original documents for verification and final admission confirmation.
Candidates who are satisfied with their first or second round allotment can choose to freeze their seat and skip further allotment rounds, locking in their current college-branch combination. Those seeking a better option can mark themselves available for the upgrade/float option, which keeps them eligible for a higher preference in subsequent rounds while retaining their already-allotted seat as a fallback if no better option materializes.
If seats remain vacant after the regular allotment rounds conclude, CUSAT typically conducts a spot admission process, where eligible candidates (often including those who missed earlier rounds, subject to rank and eligibility) can report directly to the respective college for walk-in allotment of any residual vacant seats, usually just before the academic session begins in August.
Beyond the nominal CAT application fee, candidates confirming admission must pay the respective college's tuition, caution deposit, and other institutional fees as applicable — these vary significantly between the government-administered SOE campus (comparatively lower fees) and self-financing affiliated colleges (market-linked fee structures), so candidates should budget accordingly before finalizing their option list.
In case of disputes regarding allotment, document verification, or fee payment issues during counselling, candidates can approach the CUSAT Admissions Grievance Cell, which is typically constituted specifically for the counselling period to resolve issues quickly and avoid delays that could cost a candidate their allotted seat.
