Understanding the Application-to-Counselling Cycle and Why Dates Shift Year to Year
COMEDK UGET follows a fairly consistent annual cycle that begins with registration opening in early February and culminates in centralized counselling rounds through June and July. While specific calendar dates shift by a few days or weeks each year depending on board exam schedules and administrative factors, the overall sequence and gaps between phases have stayed stable for several years, which makes it possible to plan preparation and application strategy well in advance even before the official notification drops.
| Event | Typical Window / Historical Pattern |
|---|---|
| Notification & Registration Opens | Early February |
| Last Date to Apply (Regular, No Late Fee) | Mid to Late March |
| Application Correction / Edit Window | Early to Mid April |
| Admit Card Release | Last week of April |
| COMEDK UGET Exam Day | Second Sunday of May (single day, single or two shifts) |
| Provisional Answer Key Release | Within a week of the exam |
| Result / Rank Card Declaration | Last week of May |
| Online Document Verification & Counselling Registration | Early June |
| Seat Allotment Rounds (Multiple) | Mid June to Mid July |
| Reporting to Allotted College | Within a few days of each round |
COMEDK deliberately keeps the registration window open for roughly five to six weeks because it needs to accommodate students still finishing their Class 12 board exams across different state boards (CBSE, ICSE, and multiple state boards), each of which has different academic calendars. Students are allowed to register and even appear for the exam while their board results are still pending — the actual mark verification and eligibility check only happens later, at the time of document verification during counselling.
After the main application window closes, COMEDK typically opens a short correction window of two to four days in early-to-mid April. This is the only opportunity to fix errors in personal details, category certificates, photograph/signature uploads, or exam city preference before the admit card is generated. Candidates who miss this window are usually stuck with whatever they originally submitted, so it is worth diarizing this date the moment the official notification is released.
The roughly two-week gap between the exam date and result declaration is used by COMEDK to process the provisional answer key, collect and review candidate objections/challenges, finalize the answer key, and then run the raw-score-to-rank conversion. Because COMEDK conducts the exam on a single day (unlike multi-day, multi-shift exams such as JEE Main), there is no need for percentile normalization across sessions, which keeps the results timeline comparatively short.
Once ranks are announced, COMEDK counselling itself is a multi-round process — typically three to four main rounds of choice filling and seat allotment, interspersed with reporting deadlines, followed by a mop-up or special round for any residual vacant seats. Each round generally takes seven to ten days from choice-locking to allotment, which is why the entire counselling-to-admission cycle can run into mid or late July even though the exam itself happens in May.
Registration typically opens in early February and remains open for about five to six weeks, closing in mid-to-late March, though candidates should verify the exact date from the official notification each year.
COMEDK has in the past offered a short late-fee application window of a few days after the regular deadline, but this is not guaranteed every year and should not be relied upon for planning.
Results are typically declared within two to three weeks of the exam date, after the provisional and final answer keys have been processed.
COMEDK generally conducts three to four main centralized counselling rounds plus an additional mop-up/special round, spread across June and July.
