Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka UGET • Conducted by Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka
National-Level Gateway to 190+ Private Engineering, Architecture & Allied Colleges in Karnataka
COMEDK UGET (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka - Under Graduate Entrance Test) 2026 is a national-level entrance examination conducted every year by the COMEDK consortium — a registered society formed by a group of private, self-financed medical, dental, and engineering colleges in Karnataka. Unlike most state entrance exams, COMEDK UGET carries no domicile restriction whatsoever: any Indian student, regardless of which state they live in, can sit for the exam and compete for a seat in one of Karnataka's private engineering colleges purely on merit.
COMEDK was originally established to create a single, transparent, computer-based common entrance test that private colleges in Karnataka could rely on instead of running their own individual entrance tests. Today it is one of the largest private engineering entrance exams in the country, with roughly 1.9 to 2 lakh candidates registering annually and competing for close to 20,000 engineering seats spread across around 190 member institutions, including several of Bengaluru's most reputed private colleges such as RV College of Engineering (RVCE), BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT), Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, and PES University.

Because COMEDK UGET has zero domicile requirement, it has become the default national-level "Plan B" (and for many, a genuine "Plan A") for lakhs of students who may not get their preferred branch through JEE Main or their home-state CET. Roughly 85% of COMEDK-allotted seats are filled purely on the COMEDK UGET merit rank through centralized counselling, while the remaining 15% are managed by individual colleges under their own management/NRI quota, typically at a higher fee. This dual-track system means a student's actual admission outcome depends heavily on which quota they are competing in.
COMEDK is often compared with exams like VITEEE, KIITEE, and SRMJEEE as private national-level alternatives to JEE Main, but it stands apart because its member colleges are concentrated in one state — Karnataka — which itself hosts one of India's largest and most respected clusters of private engineering colleges, closely tied to Bengaluru's IT and startup economy.

Compared to JEE Main, COMEDK UGET has a lower difficulty ceiling — the questions are pitched closer to the NCERT Class 11/12 syllabus without the multi-concept, multi-step problems typical of JEE Main or JEE Advanced. Compared to state-level CETs like KCET, COMEDK has the major advantage of having no domicile bar, making it accessible to students from Delhi, Maharashtra, UP, or anywhere else in India who want a shot at Bengaluru's well-placed private engineering colleges without competing in an unfamiliar state quota system.
No. COMEDK UGET is open to all Indian nationals regardless of which state they belong to. There is no domicile or residency requirement to register for or appear in the exam.
Around 190 private engineering, architecture, and other professional colleges across Karnataka participate in COMEDK UGET centralized counselling, including well-known names like RVCE, BMSCE, and MSRIT.
Generally, COMEDK UGET is considered somewhat easier than JEE Main in terms of question depth and calculation complexity, though the syllabus coverage (Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) is broadly similar.
COMEDK conducts a separate architecture admission process that generally accepts a valid NATA score rather than the UGET score; candidates should check the specific requirement for the year they are applying.
