Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination • Conducted by Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB)
Subject Groups, Question Distribution, Duration, and Marking Scheme
JCECE is conducted in offline, OMR-based, objective (MCQ) format, in both English and Hindi medium. The exam is structured into subject-group combinations depending on the course the candidate is targeting, and all engineering-relevant candidates (Agricultural Engineering / Dairy Technology) must select the PCM group.
| Group | Subjects | Applicable Courses |
|---|---|---|
| PCB | Physics, Chemistry, Biology | B.Sc.(Hons) Agriculture/Forestry, B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.H.M.S., B.F.Sc. |
| PCM | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics | B.Sc.(Hons) Agriculture/Forestry, B.Tech Dairy Technology, B.Tech Agricultural Engineering |
| PCMB | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology | Candidates wanting eligibility across both PCB and PCM course lists |
| Group | Total Questions | Total Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| PCM / PCB | 150 (50 per subject) | 150 | 3 Hours (Physics+Chemistry: 2 Hrs, 3rd subject: 1 Hr) |

With a -0.25 penalty for wrong answers and +1 for correct ones, blind guessing on a four-option MCQ has a mildly negative expected value (statistically, a random guess yields +0.025 expected marks per question on average across four options, which is marginally positive in pure probability terms, but inconsistent real-world guessing accuracy combined with time cost makes informed elimination-based guessing the safer practical strategy). Candidates should attempt a question only when at least one or two options can be confidently eliminated.
JCECE is conducted in offline, pen-and-paper, OMR-based mode, not as a computer-based test.
Yes, 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer, while correct answers earn 1 mark each.
They must choose the PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) group, since Agricultural Engineering and Dairy Technology seats are allotted only from PCM group merit lists.
Group changes are generally not permitted after final submission; candidates should carefully select PCM, PCB, or PCMB before submitting the form.
