Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination • Conducted by Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB)
Registration, Choice Filling, Seat Allotment Process for Agriculture & Engineering Seats
JCECEB conducts counselling separately for (a) Agriculture/allied/veterinary courses and (b) the two JCECE-linked engineering branches, using the respective PCM/PCB merit lists. This is distinct from JCECEB's other JEE Main-based engineering counselling process for mainstream B.Tech branches.
Register on the counselling portal using your JCECE application number/rank card details within the notified window.
Upload or physically verify required documents including Class 12 marksheet, domicile certificate, category certificate, and JCECE rank card.
Fill in your preferred course and college choices in order of priority, including Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology, or agriculture/veterinary/forestry courses as applicable.
Based on rank, category, and choices filled, JCECEB allots seats across multiple rounds using a merit-cum-choice algorithm.
Accept the allotted seat online, pay the requisite seat confirmation fee, and report to the allotted college with original documents within the specified deadline.
| Round | Typical Purpose |
|---|---|
| Round 1 | Primary allotment based on initial choice filling and merit rank |
| Round 2 | Allotment of vacant seats from Round 1 non-reporting/upgrades |
| Round 3 / Spot Round | Final filling of remaining vacant seats, often through spot counselling at designated centres |
Upon allotment, candidates must pay a seat confirmation/acceptance fee (nominal amount, varying by category) within the stipulated time, failing which the allotted seat is forfeited and offered to the next eligible candidate in the subsequent round.
JCECEB's counselling follows a standard merit-cum-choice algorithm: candidates are processed strictly in order of their category-wise merit rank, and at each candidate's turn, the system allocates the highest-preference choice (college + course combination) that still has an available seat within the candidate's eligible category/quota. This is the same broad logic used across most Indian state counselling systems, ensuring that no candidate loses a seat to someone with a worse rank who listed it higher in preference.
| Option | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Freeze | Candidate accepts the current allotment and exits the counselling process (no further upgrades considered) |
| Float | Candidate accepts the current seat but remains in the pool for a potentially better allotment in subsequent rounds |
| Slide | Candidate retains current college but may be considered for a better course/branch within the same institute in later rounds, depending on the specific year's rules |
If a candidate faces an issue during document verification, seat allotment discrepancy, or portal errors, JCECEB typically provides a dedicated helpline number and email ID (published in each year's counselling bulletin) along with physical grievance desks at designated verification/reporting centres for urgent, in-person resolution.
JCECEB typically conducts 2-3 rounds including a spot round, though exact numbers vary by year depending on seat vacancy levels.
Yes, most state counselling systems allow upgrading choices in subsequent rounds if a candidate wishes to try for a better-ranked choice, subject to seat availability and portal rules.
Failing to report and confirm your seat within the deadline typically results in forfeiture of the allotted seat, and it is reallocated to the next candidate in merit order.
