I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University Centralized Counselling • Conducted by I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Jalandhar / Kapurthala
Registration, Two-Phase Choice Filling, Seat Allotment and Reporting Windows
IKGPTU's counselling calendar is structured around JEE Main's own results timeline for Round 1, followed by a distinct Round 2 window for board-percentage-based applicants, and finally a period of direct college-level admissions for any seats that remain vacant after the centralised rounds conclude.

Candidates register on the IKGPTU counselling portal and pay a counselling fee (commonly around ₹2,000, non-refundable) to activate participation. Registration typically stays open for about two to three weeks, spanning early-to-mid June, timed to follow shortly after JEE Main's Session 2 result declaration by the NTA.
Round 1 choice filling and locking generally runs through late June into early July, with seat allotment results declared roughly one to two weeks later, in mid-July. This round is open to candidates who hold a valid JEE Main score/rank, competing across Punjab's State Quota and the smaller All India Quota.
Round 2, IKGPTU's distinguishing feature, opens roughly in late July, allowing any Punjab-domicile candidate who either did not appear for JEE Main or did not receive a Round 1 allotment to compete for remaining seats purely on Class 12 Board percentage. This round's allotment is typically declared in early August.
After both centralised rounds conclude, any seats that remain vacant — common at lower-demand branches or newer private colleges — are filled through direct admission at the individual college level, typically running from mid-to-late August right up to the start of the academic session in early September.
| Stage | Typical Window |
|---|---|
| Registration Opens | June |
| Round 1 Choice Filling | Late June - Early July |
| Round 1 Allotment | Mid July |
| Round 2 Opens | Late July |
| Round 2 Allotment | Early August |
| Direct College Admissions | Mid-Late August |
Because the entire counselling cycle must conclude before the academic session begins in early September, and because Round 1 cannot start until JEE Main results are available, IKGPTU's window for running two full rounds plus a direct-admission stage is considerably tighter than some other states' calendars — candidates should treat each round's deadline as firm and plan to act promptly rather than assuming ample buffer time exists.
Although this guide describes typical month-level windows based on historical patterns, treating these as fixed calendar commitments would be a mistake — IKGPTU's actual dates for any given year are only confirmed once officially published, and the only reliable way to plan precisely is to check ptu.ac.in directly once JEE Main results for that year are declared.
