Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination • Conducted by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB)
Separate 1.5-Hour Objective Papers for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and Agriculture
BCECE is conducted as a series of separate, subject-wise offline papers rather than a single combined paper. Depending on the group a candidate registers for — PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, for Engineering), PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, for Agriculture/Medical-adjacent options), or PCMB (all four subjects, to remain eligible for both Engineering and Agriculture/Biology-based merit lists) — candidates sit for the corresponding papers across the two exam days.

| Group | Subjects Included | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|
| PCM (Engineering) | Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics | 1200 |
| PCB (Agriculture/Biology-based) | Physics + Chemistry + Biology | 1200 |
| PCMB (Combined) | Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics + Biology | 1600 |
| Agriculture Groups (CBA/MBA/MCA/PCA) | Combination including Agriculture paper | Varies by group, typically 1200-1600 |
All question papers are bilingual, printed in both Hindi and English, with every question presented in both languages side by side or in parallel sections. Each question is a standard four-option multiple-choice question (MCQ), and responses are marked on an OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) answer sheet using a ballpoint pen as specified in the exam instructions.
Unlike JEE Main, which is a single computer-based test combining Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics into one timed session with a mix of MCQs and numerical-value questions, BCECE uses separate, subject-isolated offline papers, each with a flat +4/-1 marking scheme and no numerical-answer-type questions. This means BCECE preparation, while syllabus-overlapping with JEE Main, requires adapting to a pen-and-paper format and subject-wise time management rather than JEE Main's integrated multi-subject computer-based test structure.
BCECE is conducted as separate subject-wise papers — Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Agriculture — each a standalone 1.5-hour, 100-question, 400-mark test.
Each incorrect answer deducts 1 mark, while each correct answer earns 4 marks; unattempted questions receive zero marks with no penalty.
Register for PCM if you are certain you only want Engineering; register for PCMB if you want to keep both Engineering and Agriculture/Biology-based options open, since PCMB includes the Biology paper needed for the Agriculture/allied merit list.
BCECE is conducted in offline, pen-and-paper OMR-based mode across designated test centres in Bihar.
