Andhra Pradesh Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test • Conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Kakinada on behalf of APSCHE
State-Level Gateway to Engineering, Agriculture & Pharmacy Colleges Across Andhra Pradesh
AP EAPCET (Andhra Pradesh Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test) 2026 is the primary state-level entrance examination for admission to undergraduate Engineering, Agriculture, and Pharmacy programs across Andhra Pradesh. It is organized by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) and conducted on its behalf by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK).
The exam was earlier known as AP EAMCET (with the "M" standing for Medicine), but following NEET's takeover of medical admissions nationally, the exam was renamed to AP EAPCET in 2021, with the "P" now representing Pharmacy. Every year, several lakh candidates from Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states appear for AP EAPCET, competing for seats across government universities, university colleges, and private engineering institutions throughout the state.

AP EAPCET is the sole gateway into the state's engineering education system for the vast majority of aspirants, covering prestigious government-run institutions like the JNTU constituent colleges (Kakinada, Anantapur), Andhra University College of Engineering (Visakhapatnam), and Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering (Tirupati), alongside more than a hundred private engineering colleges spread across the state's districts.

A defining feature of AP EAPCET admissions is the Local Area reservation under the Andhra Pradesh Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission) Order, which reserves 85% of seats in government and university colleges for candidates classified as "local" to a specific region of the state (broadly divided by historical district groupings), with the remaining 15% open to non-local (any AP or other state) candidates on an unreserved basis.
Compared to JEE Main, AP EAPCET places significantly greater weight on Mathematics (80 of 160 questions, exactly half the paper), reflecting the exam's historical emphasis on engineering aptitude. The overall difficulty level is generally considered more moderate and NCERT/state-board-aligned than JEE Main, making it accessible to a broader base of Intermediate (Class 12 equivalent) students in Andhra Pradesh.
Although this guide focuses on the Engineering stream, AP EAPCET also covers Agriculture and Pharmacy streams, each with its own subject combination and paper (e.g., Biology-based papers for certain Agriculture/Pharmacy pathways). These streams are conducted separately, often on different days, from the Engineering stream, though under the same overall AP EAPCET notification and administrative umbrella.
AP EAMCET was originally established decades ago to provide a unified entrance mechanism for Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical admissions across the then-undivided Andhra Pradesh. Following the 2014 state bifurcation that created Telangana, and later the 2021 nationwide shift of medical admissions to NEET, the exam was restructured and renamed AP EAPCET, now serving only Engineering, Agriculture, and Pharmacy admissions within the reorganized state of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh hosts one of India's more extensive networks of engineering colleges relative to its population, a legacy of substantial private investment in technical education since the 1980s and 1990s. AP EAPCET remains the singular gateway mechanism tying this entire ecosystem together, from the oldest government colleges to the newest private institutions.
It was earlier known as AP EAMCET (Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test); after NEET took over medical admissions nationally, it was renamed AP EAPCET, with "Pharmacy" replacing "Medical" in the name.
It is organized by APSCHE (Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education) and conducted on its behalf by JNTU Kakinada.
Yes, candidates from any state can apply, but only Andhra Pradesh "local" candidates (as defined by the Presidential Order) are eligible for 85% of government college seats; the remaining 15% is open to all.
