Checking Your Allotment Status, Round by Round
"Result" in the JoSAA context means the seat allotment outcome published after each of the five rounds — not a score or percentile, since there is no exam. Each round produces a fresh, individualized allotment status for every registered candidate.
Results for each round are typically declared on the scheduled date specified in the official calendar, usually within a day of that round's processing — Round 1 results in late June, followed by Rounds 2 through 5 at roughly three-to-five-day intervals through mid-to-late July.
• Step 1: Log in to your candidate dashboard on josaa.nic.in using your registration credentials.
• Step 2: Navigate to the "Seat Allotment Result" section for the current round.
• Step 3: View your allotted institute, branch, and category (if allotted), or a "not allotted" status if no choice matched your rank in that round.
• Step 4: Download the Seat Allotment Letter if allotted, and select your response option within the given window.
Candidate's JEE rank and category; the specific institute and branch allotted (if any) in that round; the round number; and the deadline for response, fee payment, and document upload.
Since your allotment can change round to round (if you floated or slid rather than froze), it is important to actively check your status after every single round rather than assuming your previous round's allotment automatically carries forward unchanged.
Since JoSAA uses the already-finalized JEE Main/Advanced rank, there is no additional normalization step within JoSAA's own process — ranks are used exactly as received from the respective exam conducting bodies.
| Status Shown | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Allotted | You have been allotted one of your locked choices; respond with freeze/float/slide |
| Not Allotted | No choice on your list had a vacant seat matching your rank in this round; you remain eligible for subsequent rounds |
| Withdrawn | You have exited the process and will not be considered in subsequent rounds |
| Document Verification Pending | You accepted a seat but have not yet completed the required verification step |
Candidates who remain unallotted after Round 5 concludes their JoSAA participation for that cycle. NIT+ system seats then flow into CSAB's Special Rounds in August, giving these candidates one further opportunity; IIT seat vacancies, however, are not transferred anywhere.
,If a candidate believes their allotment result does not correctly reflect their locked choices or eligibility, they should raise a grievance through the official JoSAA helpdesk promptly, since response windows for each round are short.
| Field | Example Description |
|---|---|
| Application Number | Unique JoSAA registration ID |
| Candidate Name & Photograph | As per uploaded application details |
| JEE Rank & Category | Basis used for that round's allotment |
| Round Number | Which of the five rounds this result pertains to |
| Allotted Institute & Branch | If allotted in that round |
| Response Deadline | Window to freeze/float/slide/withdraw |
Since JoSAA results are declared separately for each of the five rounds, candidates should maintain a simple personal log of their status after each round to avoid confusion about which deadlines and response options currently apply to them.
After each of the five rounds, typically at three-to-five-day intervals from late June through late July.
You automatically remain in consideration for subsequent rounds unless you explicitly withdraw from the process.
