Registration, Choice Filling, Seat Allotment Rounds and Reporting Windows
Because HSTES counselling depends entirely on JEE Main results being declared first, its own calendar begins only after the JEE Main Session 2 result (and the resulting All India CRL) is published, typically placing HSTES registration in the June window each year. The complete counselling cycle — registration through final institute-level spot rounds — usually spans from June through August.

HSTES registration typically remains open for about three weeks, during which candidates fill in personal, academic, and JEE Main rank details, upload category/domicile documents, and pay the counselling registration fee. Document verification — either fully online through upload-based scrutiny or at designated facilitation centres — usually runs in parallel with or immediately after registration.
Since multiple candidates can share the same JEE Main percentile/rank band in edge cases, and because Haryana applies its own category and domicile-based reservation logic on top of the raw JEE Main CRL, HSTES publishes a Haryana-specific inter-se merit list a few days after registration closes — this is the actual ranking used for the state's seat allotment, distinct from the raw all-India JEE Main rank.
HSTES typically runs two structured online counselling rounds (Round 1 and Round 2), each comprising a choice-filling/locking period of a few days followed by allotment result announcement roughly 24-48 hours later, and a reporting window at the allotted institute of another 3-4 days. After Round 2, any remaining vacant seats are filled through institute-level physical/offline spot counselling, which can extend into August, sometimes right up to the start of the academic session.
This calendar structure — June registration, July main rounds, August spot rounds — has remained broadly consistent across recent admission cycles, tightly synchronized with JEE Main's own results calendar. Exact 2026-27 dates should always be confirmed on the official hstes.org.in or techadmissionshry.gov.in portals rather than assumed from a previous year's calendar, since JEE Main's own Session 2 result timing can shift by a few days year to year.
The Diploma Engineering admission calendar and the B.Tech Lateral Entry OCET calendar each run on their own separate schedules, which can overlap with but are not identical to the main JEE Main-based B.Tech counselling calendar described above — candidates interested in more than one track should track each one's notification separately on the HSTES website rather than assuming a single unified calendar.
Because the entire HSTES cycle compresses into roughly ten to twelve weeks between JEE Main result and the start of the academic session, candidates benefit from having all documents, category certificates, and a draft choice list prepared in advance of results, since the actual window for action once results are out is considerably shorter than the multi-month calendars seen in some other state systems.
Because the entire HSTES calendar is contingent on JEE Main's result timeline, any NTA-side delay in declaring results directly compresses the time HSTES has to run its full registration-to-spot-round cycle before the academic session begins — in such years, HSTES has historically compressed round gaps rather than delaying the academic session start, meaning candidates should be prepared to act quickly once results are declared.
Because the exact date ranges shift by a few days to a couple of weeks each year depending on JEE Main's own results calendar, the single most reliable action a candidate can take is downloading that year's official HSTES prospectus PDF (released separately for B.Tech, Diploma, and Lateral Entry tracks) the moment it is published, and building a personal calendar directly from its officially notified dates rather than from any previous year's timeline.
Given the compressed reporting windows within each counselling round (often just a few days), and given that some institutes still require physical reporting, candidates and families should plan travel logistics for potential reporting visits well in advance rather than discovering reporting requirements only after an allotment is received.
Experienced counsellors generally advise building at least a two-to-three-day personal buffer ahead of every HSTES deadline rather than planning to act exactly on the last permitted day, since portal congestion near deadlines is common and can cause last-minute submission failures that are difficult to remedy after the window closes.
